Farewell Colac - see you in Winter!!

Thursday 13th February 2025.  

And so, we were off - eventually.

After a bit of a rushed final pack (of course!!), Janine, our chauffeur, calmly set off for Colac Station but then came a panic return to home for "someone's" suit.  Fortunately, Anne-Marie was waiting to help speedily transfer our luggage to the platform as we were cutting it fine for the 4.30pm train to Melbourne. 

But then we had to wait. As it was a Total Fire-ban day with a temp of 33 degrees (interesting in itself as we would be heading for a balmy 6-degree day in London the next day!!), the trains were running on a hot weather timetable.  We eventually boarded the train just after 5pm and, after a fairly uneventful trip, were greeted by Daniel and Martha at Footscray Station.  A little shopping expedition to stock up for supplies for the flight that we eventually did not need.  Back to Moonee Ponds for a yummy tea, interspersed with all the last-minute travel tips and warnings that these experienced travellers could think we might need. Very helpful.  Time for a little snooze.

Before we knew it, the 2.30am alarm rang and we were all up and buzzing around, and, after last minute hugs and well-wishes, we were whisked off to Tullamarine by Emirates Chauffeur #1 - who was notable by his complete silence.  

After negotiating the necessary check-ins and checks, a shopping stop at JB HiFi was necessary (of course Mr Modra needed a little something) and then on we went to discover the delights of the Emirates Business Class (henceforth BC between friends!!) Lounge.  Amazing.  We didn't have long in there - but it was long enough for Mr Modra to consume Breakfast #1 and we were heading for the plane - not quite the last to board, but close!!  

It was now Friday 14th February - Valentine's Day.  And the adventure was about to begin.

So .... where are we off to this time???

Our long-awaited trip is about to happen!!  And another MODRA ADVENTURE will unfold!! 4 weeks in:   What's made an impact/what have I noticed???? Well, things haven't worked out like I thought.  Yes, at the end of the day, the last thing I've felt like doing is making notes on a laptop.   We're in Tollerton, on the outskirts of York atm, having encountered the various motorways from .......... in NW Wales.  Much smaller cars than in Oz - very few SUVs on the roads - let's face it, on the roads we've been travelling on in SW England and Wales they wouldn't fit!!
